UC Merced Dining and the ACF Monterey Bay Chefs hosted a food education event, showcasing four remarkable local food speakers that are producing their products within a 30-mile radius of the UC Merced campus.
 
Danny Royer, UC Merced’s Smart Farm Coordinator took us on a journey into the realm of cutting-edge agricultural innovation.
 
Sandy Brannan from Way of Life Farms shared her unique perspective on starting a small family farm in 2020 and how she and Jake (her husband) manage their land responsibly, run their pasture raised egg operation and recounted some of their upcoming projects.
 
Marc Marchini enlightened us with the inspiring story of J. Marchini Farms, who have been farming the rich soils of California since the 1920’s, growing Italian specialties that are enjoyed throughout the world.
 
Cru Winery’s story was shared by Rebecca Gilbert and Robert Arroyo.  Cru Winery has 39 x 90-point wines in the past 5 years from Wine Enthusiast Magazine.  All the vineyards they work with are certified sustainable.  
 
This gathering served as an opportunity to foster meaningful connections, exchange ideas and deepen our understanding of the vital role that food plays in our communities.
