We had an incredible event at UC Merced celebrating Latin Heritage Month, KUDOS to UC Merced Dining Executive Sous Chef and Monterey Bay ACF member, Jonathan Gutierrez Santiago for organizing and hosting the event.
Dr. Claudia Serrato, a renowned Indigenous culinary anthropologist and chef, was our guspeaker. Dr. Serrato’s work focuses on the preservation and revitalization of Indigenous Mexican and Native American cuisines. Her powerful presentation highlighted the deep cultural significance of food as a form of resistance, healing, and connection to ancestral traditions. Her recipes, deeply rooted in these traditions, brought the essence of Indigenous culinary heritage to life and offered our community a meaningful way to celebrate Latin Heritage Month.
