In November, the Monterey Bay ACF and UC Merced’s Division of Equity, Justice and Inclusive Excellence hosted a Native American History Month event, “Indigenous Insights: Café Ohlone’s Culinary Journey.” The team from Café Ohlone, which is on the UC Berkeley campus, shared their poignant story and recipes which were prepared by Monterey Bay ACF members, inviting attendees to experience the deep cultural significance of Ohlone cuisine. The event was a beautiful tapestry of storytelling, tradition, and community as we honored the resilience and contributions of the Ohlone people, the original inhabitants of the San Franscisco Bay Area, while reflecting on the importance of preserving and revitalizing Indigenous cultures. It was an unforgettable evening that not only celebrated history but also served as a reminder of the ongoing journey to support and uplift Indigenous communities.
