CATERING DIRECTOR – CSUMB

Filling every occasion with great food and service! We are currently seeking a Catering Director for a premiere catering department at California State University-Monterey Bay. Working as the Catering Director you will effectively coordinate all internal and external catering events. You are responsible for event coordination and sales financials. Events can range from coffee service to VIP dining events both on and off-campus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Creates proposals, contracts, and banquet event orders
  • Negotiates with clients through the use of creative and attractive menu presentations and event proposals, to achieve both maximum revenue/profit potential and fulfillment of contractual responsibilities while satisfying client needs
  • Solicits event feedback and compiles opportunities for improvement and event experience
  • Facilitates weekly BEO meetings with operations and culinary to ensure everyone is aligned on event expectations
  • Coordinates and oversees internal and external catering events from beginning through execution
  • Generates effective client and customer rapport for mutually beneficial business relationships
  • Trains, and schedules catering staff, and will be actively involved in the development of existing catering staff in-service techniques, menu presentation, policies, and procedures
  • Ensures successful operations of catering functions including labor cost control, foods cost control and preparation, transportation, setup, operation, and cleanup of all events
  • Works with the Management and Chartwell’s Marketing teams to implement effective strategies to build catering revenue

PREFERRED QUALIICATIONS:

  • Associate’s Degree is preferred in either Hospitality or Culinary Arts
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the hospitality industry with catering and sales experience
  • High volume catering experience
  • Strong knowledge of current food, industry trends and fine dining points of service
  • Ability to assess client requirements and deliver ensuring client satisfaction
  • Must be able to write menu proposals in consultation with chefs
  • Exceptional client relations and customer service abilities
